意大利新写实主义导演Gruseppe Tornatore的三部作品：《天堂电影院》《海上钢琴师》《西西里的美丽传说》 合称为时空三部曲。
本片是“时空三部曲”之首，曾获第六十二届奥斯卡最佳外语片（1990），目前豆瓣39万人参评，评分9.2。

10天、20天...无论风吹雨打、蚊虫叮咬，士兵都坚持守候在公主的阳台下，到了第90天，卫兵变得虚弱苍白，四肢无力，这一切公主都看在眼里，可是这样艰难的熬到了第99天，士兵却起身离开了……
一个令人唏嘘的故事，艾佛特没有给多多答案，也同样没有给我们这些观影者答案。
起初我并没有get到这个故事的用意，觉得士兵之所以会在第99天离开，完全是因为公主已经看到他饱受摧残这么多天却无动于衷，是根本不爱他的表现，既然已经知道了结果，自己在最后一天主动离开，是对双方都好的一种选择。
后来才发现，这只是我个人的单方面想法，也就是在这时候，我似乎明白了这个故事的真正用意，所有人的解读都是正解。
这也是我感叹Tornatore导演天才的地方之一， 电影只能告诉人们想什么，却不能左右人们怎么想。
“这不是电影对白，这是我心里的话”
影片里另一个设置亮点就是导演会借艾佛特之口，用电影对白来表明人物情感、立场。
比如上面提到的约翰·韦恩的台词：
“暴民没有头脑，不事思考”
既会让人联想到当时的二战背景，也容易让人联系上后来的美丽悲剧《西西里的美丽传说》，Tornatore导演关于时空三部曲里的永恒母题元素之一，在这里已初露端倪。
艾佛特用史宾塞·屈赛的台词吐槽完之后，转而就回到屋子像变魔术一样把电影穿过墙，好让影院外的“暴民”们可以看上电影。
这种细节上的微转折处理不仅让电影穿墙从室内到室外的这个长镜头成为了影片经典的情节之一，并且还不经意丰富了艾佛特的人物性格： 善良、睿智。
而当一直以来以电影对白来教导多多的艾佛特，突然有一天一改往日，这就注定了影片又将诞生另一经典片段。
“忘了她吧，多多”
影片第三个吸引我的亮点就是多多和他母亲这条线。
30年后，多多回家，仅凭一阵脚步声，母亲就知道是他。起身、手里针线落地。
针暗示着母亲30年来牵挂的心终于着了地，毛线的不断被拉长表明母亲离门口的儿子越来越近。
Tornatore导演在多多30年后归家与母亲重逢这一情节上的蒙太奇画面处理方式，平静克制，但是却是却阻挡不了那种深切的情感溢出屏幕触动观影者的内心。
想到了几年前老谋子在《归来》里刻画陆焉识归来的时候的蒙太奇处理，也有异曲同工之妙。
知子莫若母，即使30年没见，母亲还是能够一眼识透儿子的内心。
（170分钟的导演剪辑版被无数人吐槽，唯一被称赞的情节就是母亲的那段讲述。）
时空三部曲。又称寻找三部曲，亦称回家三部曲。
《天堂电影院》作为三部曲之首，毫无疑问完美的诠释了这个母题。
人生兜兜转转寻觅，一朝回到故里，仿佛从没离开过。
经典影片常看常新，这部片子是在有太多的地方值得被观影的我们深掘。
