当1997年宫崎骏宣布《幽灵公主》作为封笔之作，我确实把它当作一部“遗作”含泪看完。而多年后《千与千寻的神隐》对反复食言的宫崎骏也确实不愧是他创作生涯的新高度， 而到了《哈尔的移动城堡》 ，原本得监督，因为遭到所有吉卜力工作室创作人员的非议，慌忙中请来宫崎骏先生来当救火队员，可正是这部席卷欧美票房的“动画巨片”远远偏离了宫崎骏的原有风格，当然，它本身就是一个十分英国氛围的舶来品。从此动画制作似乎脱离“动画”本身的原意，而在越来越魔幻的路上渐渐远离，宫崎骏的儿子宫崎吾郎那部饱受非议的“地海战记”不可谓不深受其毒害，据说让他老爸看到一半就匆匆逃出来抽烟，看不下去了。
