近日汤唯在第64届戛纳电影节英文专访的视频在网上疯传，其英语的流利令无数网友惊讶，连BBC的专栏作者看到后也忍不住对汤唯赞美了一番，不过也指出了汤唯的一点小瑕疵：肢体语言还不够英式。

必须承认有些人具有某些天赋，比如说汤唯说英语。这周三在网站上看到汤唯在戛纳做了一段英文采访，顿时有点呆住了。这让我想起了自己的英语之路，还有身边听到过的种种华人英语。
华人英语
汤唯是我很喜欢的华人演员，特别是演了《色?诫》之后。而我最喜欢看的是，并非是她的表演，而是她的八卦和日常表现。比如，2007年，她出席台湾金马奖时候，面对调侃，说普通话时候的那份沉稳和冷静，让人感觉此人不简单。
最难的是站在台湾的领奖台上，她的普通话没有一点港台腔，很大陆。在娱乐圈中，浸淫日久，口音的多样化，是自然现象，无可厚非。而一个新人，过早地放弃了自己口音，却也常常是检验其自信心的无声证明。
后来，据说汤唯跑到英国的雷丁大学(Reading University)进修英语，当时以为就是到外镀镀金。这回听到她说英文，才明白下的是真功夫。
在英国，最近一些华人社团和政治人呼吁在公共媒体多出现一些华人的面孔，特别是积极正面的形象。我猜想华人面孔的稀缺，与语言有很大的关系。
在英国大学里，很多身为教授级的华人，也有为自己的英语苦恼。写作和阅读已经不是问题，但是说起话来，还是常常有点心虚。在英国这样一个靠语言和文字驱动的社会里，你的语言，就是你的影响力。虽然以“音”取人也是一种歧视，但是我不相信，有谁会拒绝一付悦耳的声音，一口地道的RP(Received Pronunciation)口音。
我喜欢阅读时政类报章，在英文媒体中，能够牢固地占据一个老牌杂志或报章写东西的华人作者基本上没有。偶尔在《旁观者》(the Spectator)看到David Tang(邓永铿)爵士发表的豆腐块，能够在这份相当于保守党的《求是》杂志上露面，已属不容易。
这豆腐块的尺寸，基本上可以证明了华人英语在这个社会的影响度和可接受程度。更多是看到华人稍微被主流写上一句，就欢呼做了“第一人”，似乎被历史浓重记上一笔，这说明华人社会底深不够，有点沉不住气，目标还不够远大。
肢体与语言
在说一门非母语的语言时候，除了言语本身，言语之外的神情、肢体和手势，也是非常重要的，却也常常被我们忽略。有趣的是，每一种语言所附加的表情和肢体语言往往都是不同的。英国副首相卡莱格是一个语言高手，除了英语，能说荷兰语、法语、德语和西班牙。在2010年，克莱格参选之时，曾经有过一段讲荷兰语的镜头。
当时，他刚刚和身边的人说完英语，切换到荷兰语，与旁边的荷兰记者聊起来。突然间，他的面部表情变得丰富起来，略微显出点滑稽，眉毛的浮动明显多了起来。
不同语言所带来肢体语言不同，放到自己的母语里就更加容易看出来。我很喜欢看中国的民间曲艺，爱看中国方言剧。比如，赵本山的《乡村爱情》，说东北方言的东北男人，与京味电视剧里面掌柜、大爷和爷们，接电话、打手机，迎来送往的眼神和肢体语言，区别很大。如果你看过上海、广州的方言剧，神情举止差别就更加明显了。
在英国，我看过很多为了把生意做成，一脸赔笑，Yes加OK到底的中式英语，总是心生遗憾。而如果遇到一个华人，能够优雅自如，身口心“三合一”地表达自己，总会让我心生敬意，也是自己努力的目标。
过去，我在中国，说英语属于热情高过语言本身。我妹妹曾经评价我说英语，和说瑞安话的表情和腔调一样。言外之意，当年，我说普通话的时候，神情、举止和腔调和说英文不同的，后者应该过于草根。
这大概是可以这么理解的。因为普通话，在古代叫“官话”，是当官入仕的人使用的语言。虽然今天这层意义已经消退，但是仍然在用词和表达上保持了庄重正统的气质。而对我来说，说一口漂亮英语的人，举止做派，无法亲见，难以模仿一种说英文的风度。
晚上回家，把汤唯说英文的那段录像再看了一遍。短短的一年学习，她的发音基本上是无可挑剔，但是在肢体语言上，尤其是在表达一些简单赞美之词的时候，过度使用肢体语言和小动作，不够英式英语的冷与硬。
