场景：夏天，绿树，青草，白栅栏。丑小鸭躲在模拟的蛋壳内，鸭妈妈在蛋壳前面做孵蛋的样子，另外4只鸭蛋围住鸭妈妈，趴在地上成圆弧状。
音乐：（有鸟叫，知了叫等）及舞台布景组合出一幅恬静、温暖的乡村夏日风光图。
画外音：It is a sunny and warm day. A mother ck lies in the stook, waiting for the birth of her children.（太阳暖烘烘的，鸭妈妈卧在稻草堆里，等她的孩子们出世。）
鸭妈妈：Well, my babies, come out quickly please. I’m tired.（伸懒腰）哎，我的孩子们，你们怎么还不出世呀，可把妈妈累坏了！
(音乐停)
鸭妈妈抚摸着鸭蛋.
画外音：Suddenly, an egg moves and come out a ck. It looks around the world and says:

SEAN:如果那种事情只是偶尔发生一次,那也不是什么坏事.不过总的来说,我不会去想把自己老爸和别人的兑换.他确实爱我们这些孩子和我们的母亲.但是我觉得那就是问题所在.他想为我们做一些事情,那些他认为是对的.但是我需要在行动之前经过大脑,因为:
SEAN,HEIDI和DIANE:(一齐)老爸英明!
(灯光暗下,中央的灯亮起来,那里FATHER和三个孩子正坐在餐桌周围.MOTHER拿着盘子进来准备信丛坐下.FATHER立刻站起来帮MOTHER拉出椅子.MOTHER坐下.一家人开始吃饭.)
FATHRE:我有一个惊喜给你,DAINE
DIANE:(知道那肯定不是什么好事)你有...一个惊喜?
MOTHER:好吧,不管是纤芦什么,亲爱的，不要给我们留下悬念.
FATHER:好吧,你们都知道,Dan Lucas和我一起工作.
DIANE:Kyle的父亲?
MOTHER:不要打岔,亲爱的,你爸爸正在给你们说事情.
HEIDI:(舞台话悄悄对SEAN说)肯定是一些DIANE不想知道的,我打赌.
