The film had the highest all-time worldwide opening for an animated film and went on to gross $1.45 billion worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film of 2019, the 10th highest-grossing film of all time and the second highest-grossing animated film of all time, behind the remake of The Lion King, which was released the same year.[15] The film received generally positive reviews from critics. It won two Annie Awards for Outstanding Achievement for Animated Effects in an Animated Proction and Outstanding Achievement for Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Proction and a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Effects Simulations in an Animated Feature. At the 92nd Academy Awards, the film received a nomination for Best Original Song for "Into the Unknown".

劇情是相當的精彩，和迪士尼之前的電影劇情相比好了很多。
相對於第一部《冰雪奇緣》，這部續集電影將會是一個更黑暗，更成熟的故事。而且就如同《冰雪奇緣2》的導演表示的，這部電影會解釋很多第一部電影中遺留下的問題。電影的視覺效果特別華麗，美中不足的就是電影中的人物繁雜，再加上復雜的劇情，使得電影的整體故事不如第一部。
