沒看電影前，光看影片譯名，隱約感覺有點曖昧的味道。
觀看完整部電影，這種感覺就盪然無存了，暗自為自己內心的小膚淺稍微臉紅一會。
聞香識女人，可謂是串起整個故事情節的隱形線索。
故事的男主角是一位盲人。他的嗅覺非常靈敏，他能通過聞到他附近女性身上的香水味，推測她用的什麼牌子香水、推斷她有什麼愛好等等，每次都猜的很准。
「聞香識女人」算是他的一個本事。他的這個本事也與他的豐富的人生經歷有關。換句話說，在他眼盲之前，他是個見悉斗過世面的人。
他不是一位普通的盲人。他原是名美軍陸軍軍官，中校，作戰大英雄。他不得不離開已服役26年的部隊，他不願意呆在軍人之家，寄居在侄女的家裡。
他的行為和脾氣有些古怪，如:他不喜歡別人叫他慶陸棚長官，不喜歡別人主動攙扶他，喜歡發脾氣，甚至說臟話......
這一年，外甥女一家開車出遠門度感恩節，他不願意同去。他正醞釀了一個自殺計劃:坐飛機頭等艙，到紐約城裡，住最貴的酒店，吃最好的大餐，坐豪華計程車，去見他大哥最後一面，和有名的風塵女睡一覺，然後躺酒店的大床上用槍把自己腦袋打爆。
他是個盲人，計劃的實施需要有個人幫助他，給他引路。這個人就是外甥女幫他找的兼職護工，17歲高中生，名叫查理。
整個影片中，共有三次「聞香識女人」的故事情節。
前兩次，都發生在他實施自殺計劃的過程中。
第一次，他和查理坐在飛機頭等艙里，他聞到空姐身上散發的香水味，猜出香水的品牌，又通過香水和說話口音，推斷出空姐名字；

Borrowing from masters like Sam Peckinpah and David Lean， the actor/director has crafted an exceptional cinematic tapestry in only his sophomore effort。 Most of the time， three hour movies have a few flat spots， but Braveheart is constantly on the move -- riveting from start to finish。 When the end credits began to roll， I was hard pressed to accept that nearly 170 minutes had elapsed。

他與病魔抗掙著,病情越來越嚴重,肌肉一天天的萎縮,走路越來越不穩了,連站都站不起來.為了和病魔做斗爭,他努力鍛煉,堅持靠自己的力量上樓.到最後腿的力量都弱了,他就用手拉著扶手很艱難地走上樓去.
病情不斷的加重了,霍金終於站不住了,坐在了輪椅,他連手指都不能動了,十個手指,只有兩個還能動,又過幾年,他說話已經非常的困難了,吐字不清了,說幾個字要說很長的時間.過了一年,他得了肺炎,治療時把氣管切開了,從此,他就不能再說話了.
