場景：夏天，綠樹，青草，白柵欄。丑小鴨躲在模擬的蛋殼內，鴨媽媽在蛋殼前面做孵蛋的樣子，另外4隻鴨蛋圍住鴨媽媽，趴在地上成圓弧狀。
音樂：（有鳥叫，知了叫等）及舞檯布景組合出一幅恬靜、溫暖的鄉村夏日風光圖。
畫外音：It is a sunny and warm day. A mother ck lies in the stook, waiting for the birth of her children.（太陽暖烘烘的，鴨媽媽卧在稻草堆里，等她的孩子們出世。）
鴨媽媽：Well, my babies, come out quickly please. I』m tired.（伸懶腰）哎，我的孩子們，你們怎麼還不出世呀，可把媽媽累壞了！
(音樂停)
鴨媽媽撫摸著鴨蛋.
畫外音：Suddenly, an egg moves and come out a ck. It looks around the world and says:
突然，一隻鴨蛋動了一下。小鴨1站了起來，看了一下周圍的世界說：
小鴨1：Oh, what a beautiful world!「哦，多麼美麗的世界啊！」
轉過身來對媽媽說到：Hi, Mummy!

鴨媽媽和藹地撫摸著各個鴨子，群鴨很歡快地圍著鴨媽媽轉，突然小鴨4走出來驚訝地指著大蛋，說到：
襲歲散小鴨4：（指著大蛋）Mum, what』s this ? Why not crack? 咦，媽媽，這是誰？還不出來呀？

小鴨3：Haha, His mouth is so big 瞧！她的嘴巴雀搏那麼大
齊聲：It』s just an 「ugly cking」! We don』t like stay with you.（他可真是一隻「丑小鴨」。我們不想和你呆在一起）
鴨媽媽：Ah! Why is she so ugly? She shouldn』t come into this world! But she is still my baby, I can』t leave you. 哎，為什麼她這么丑呢？她不應該來到這個世界上的，但是她還是我的孩子，我不會離開你的。
（鴨媽媽看著丑小鴨，搖頭做無可奈何狀。）
鴨媽媽一說完，群鴨便一個個跑到媽媽周圍撒嬌，說到：

小鴨3：You can』t play with us. Go ahead!你不能跟我們玩，走開！
丑小鴨：I』m not beautiful, but I am lonely. I want to play with you.我長的不漂亮，但是我很孤單，我想跟你們一起玩。
小鴨4：No, you can』t. We don』t want an ugly ckling to spoil our fun. .不行。我們不想一隻丑鴨子破壞我們的興致。
群鴨：LE-AVE, leave，Let』s go! （LE-AVE，離開。我們走！）
群鴨離場。
丑小鴨：Dear mum, Life is unfair to me. I』m ugly . But it』s not my fault . Mum, I』m sorry , I have to leave you. Bye mum. （媽，生活對我太不公平了，長得丑，不是我的錯啊！媽媽，對不起，我要離開你了！）
丑小鴨離場，鴨媽媽拿著籃子進場。

(鴨媽媽做出撒米粒的樣子，小鴨們隨著鴨媽媽的動作方向搶吃食物。)

丑小鴨坐在地上做喝水狀，突然來了一群小鳥。
音樂響起（班得瑞《寂靜山林》），小鳥進場。

群鳥跳舞。突然，一隻小鳥說到：
小鳥：Look, a dirty thing is over there . Let me go and have a look.（看，那邊有個臟東西。我們去瞧瞧）
小鳥：Who are you?（驚訝地問）
丑小鴨：I』m …I』m …I』m a ckling.( 低著頭，小聲說。)
小鳥：Ha, ha, look at your feathers. So ugly!(小鳥拍拍自己身上的羽毛，作炫耀狀。)

畫外音：Winter comes. The water becomes ice. It』s really very cold. There is no one outside. Ugly ckling slips on the ice. She feels very cold and lonely. How she wishes someone could help her! At last She could not move any more.
丑小鴨：Oh, I』m frozen. ( 暈倒在舞台上)
農夫：Well, poor ckling. Let me save you!（在丑小鴨身上摸了模）哎，可憐的小東西，還有救！（拾走「鴨子」）
第三場丑小鴨變天鵝
場景：春天，綠樹，花草，音樂。構成一幅湖邊春光圖。
畫外音：Spring comes, the flowers are blooming. Ugly ckling fly to the lake, he sees some beautiful white swans over there. They have white feather and slender necks. Ugly cking wants to play with them.（春天來了，花開了，丑小鴨撲撲翅膀，向湖邊飛去。。看見湖面上有幾只美麗的白天鵝，雪白的羽毛，長長的脖子，美麗極了。他多想和他們一起玩啊！）
丑小鴨：Ah! Beautiful birds, your feather is so white, your necks is so slender, your posture is so nice, you are most dignity bird in the world! （啊！美麗的大鳥，你們的羽毛是那樣潔白，你們的脖子是那樣修長，你們的體態是那樣優美，你們是世界上最高貴的鳥兒。）
天鵝1：Hello, my lovely friend, come and play with us!（可愛的小客人，快來和我們一起玩吧！）
眾天鵝：Come on! Come on!(快來呀！來吧！)

FATHER:晚上好.
SEAN:(對自己說)噢,不!
(他蹲在了一桌子後面不讓父親看見)
FATHER:我要找經理.
MANAGER:我就是,先生.
FATHER:我是Sam Thompson,我的兒子在這里工作.
MANAGER:噢,你是SEAN的父親.

SEAN:如果那種事情只是偶爾發生一次,那也不是什麼壞事.不過總的來說,我不會去想把自己老爸和別人的兌換.他確實愛我們這些孩子和我們的母親.但是我覺得那就是問題所在.他想為我們做一些事情,那些他認為是對的.但是我需要在行動之前經過大腦,因為:
SEAN,HEIDI和DIANE:(一齊)老爸英明!
(燈光暗下,中央的燈亮起來,那裡FATHER和三個孩子正坐在餐桌周圍.MOTHER拿著盤子進來准備信叢坐下.FATHER立刻站起來幫MOTHER拉出椅子.MOTHER坐下.一家人開始吃飯.)
FATHRE:我有一個驚喜給你,DAINE
DIANE:(知道那肯定不是什麼好事)你有...一個驚喜?
MOTHER:好吧,不管是纖蘆什麼,親愛的，不要給我們留下懸念.
