When Kevin discovers he has the large house to himself,he has the time of his life,but he is afraid of the neighbour,an old bearded man.Also,two burglars are determined to break in.Kevin pretends to have a party to scare them away one night,another time he lets firecrackers off in the kitchen.Finally,the burglars do get into the house,but Kevin has filled it with booby traps,which see the crooks being burned and banged on the head,among other things.

The overwhelming success of 'Home Alone' (it spawned two sequels),is enough to guarantee that most people will love this story of a family that departs for Paris on the Christmas holidays,mistakenly leaving an eight-year old boy to fend for himself.And fend he does,when burglars threaten to break in unless he can rig enough booby-traps to keep them out.
That's the simple plot in a nutshell.Macaulay Culkin seems to have no problem carrying most of the film with a wide variety of looks,gestures and expressions--but for my money it's Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci who get the main laughs as the bumbling burglars intent on outwitting the kid's traps.
Others in the cast don't have as much to do but do well enough by their roles,particularly Catherine O'Hara and John Heard as the parents who only discover on the plane that Kevin is missing.The laughs are steady,the color photography is great and the slight story is probably every boy's fantasy of what it might be like to be left home alone.Add to that the holiday flavor of Christmas and a pleasant musical score by John Williams and you have the makings of a classic.
The proof is in the pudding--they must have done something right!

Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889 in London. Her father was an entertainer and although not one of the big names, he was doing very well. Her mother Hannah was also an entertainer. A wonderful mimic, she had a sweet, charming voice. While they were by no means[1] rich, the music hall provided the Chaplins with a comfortabl
e living.

Unfortunately happy life didn't last long. Father's alcoholism was slowly, but surely destroying his marriage. Finally it ended in divorce, but Hannah was indomitable[2]. Without her, Charlie Chaplin would have become just one more child lost in the poverty of Victorian London. Somehow she not only managed to keep Charlie and his brother Syney clean and warm, clothed and fed but she conjured[3] little treats for them. She would sit at the window watching the passersby and guess at their characters from the way they looked and behaved, spinning tales to delight Charlie and Syney. Charlie took in her skills and went on using them all his life.

Charlie had always believed, even in the worst times, that had something special locked away inside him. He took his courage and went to see one of the top theatrical agents. With no experience at all, he was being offered the plum part[4] of Billy-- the pageboy in a new proction of "Sherlock Holmes". "Sherlock Holmes" opened on July 27, 1903 at the enormous "Pavilion Theatre" Charlie seemed to change overnight. It was as if he had found the thing he was meant to do.

It was, by now, 1908, Charlie was nineteen and he fell in love. Hetty Kelly was only fifteen. But her parents quashed[5] the the romance before it really begun-- but the memory of pretty Hetty stayed with Charlie all his life.

即便在處境最為艱難的時刻，查理也始終堅信自己蘊藏著特殊的才能。他鼓足勇氣，前往倫敦一家高級的戲院經理商應聘。竟獲得新編的《歇洛克·福爾摩斯》劇中的小傭人比利一角。1903年7月27日《歇洛克·福爾摩斯》新劇在氣勢恢宏的帕維廉劇院首演，不久外出巡迴演出。查理似乎一夜間發生了巨變，他好似找到了立志從事的事業。

1908年，19歲的查理墮入情網。他所鍾情的海蒂·凱年僅十五。在他們之間的戀情處於萌芽狀態時，海蒂的父母果斷地終止了它的發展，然而，海蒂迷人的豐采竟使查理終生難忘。

1910年，卓別林所在的卡諾戲班赴美國作一年一度的巡迴表演，他被認為是「當地美國人曾經見過的最為出類拔萃的啞劇表演藝術家之一。當他們抵達費城時，一紙電文接踵而至，把替換基石電影公司的一位明星的機遇賜於了他。

電影業是與查理同年誕生的。但當時人們普遍以為電影業充其量只曇花一現的時尚，它不可能替代現場真人表演。公司給他幾周觀摩的時間，他站在一旁，邊觀察、邊學習，下定決心要駕馭這個新生事物。這個新興的行業給他帶來了賺錢和走向成功的機會，也將有助於他從對戲劇觀眾喧嚷起鬨的擔憂中解脫出來。

1914年2月，查理主演的處女片上映，影片取名《謀生》 盡管此片由於導演的無能而令查理大失所望，但觀眾還是喜愛這部片子的。之後他又拍了幾部片，增長了不少學識。公眾喜愛他，並且電影銷售商索要越來越多的卓別林的片子，在極短的時間內，他成了電影界的重要人物
