There are moments in adolescence when your feelings about romance turn on a dime. Maybe its hormonal.
The girl you thought was a pest becomes the object of your dreams. The boy youve had a crush on for years begins to seem like a jerk. The timing is off. Sometimes you can look back half a lifetime and see how things might have happened differently if you hadnt been so stupid. Rob Reiners "Flipped" does the looking.
Here is a lovely movie about a girl who has adored a boy ever since he moved into the neighborhood in the second grade. She even likes his smell, and it is true we cannot love someone who isnt aromatic to our hearts.
All through grade school and into high school, she pursues him; theyre like the runners in Keats 「Ode on a Grecian Urn」 who pursue each other for eternity without ever drawing closer. In Reiners film, they flip and start running in the other direction.
Madeline Carroll plays Juli Baker, who was determined to get Bryce Loski (Callan McAuliffe) to like her when they were kids, but in eighth grade has turned her attention to more urgent matters, like sparing the life of the beautiful sycamore tree in her front yard.
It is threatened with being chopped down by the forces of evil, and she climbs it and wont come down. That shows some character, muses Bryces grandfather Chet (John Mahoney). If he were Bryce, hed notice a girl like that. Bryce begins to catch on.
There are difficulties and the possibility of heartbreak. There always are in high school. You wear your sleeve on your heart. There are parents. Not everybody has parents like "Juno" did. If Juno had ordinary parents, her story would be a grim morality play. But "Flipped" doesnt haul in standard parents of teenagers. Reiner wisely casts gifted actors (Aidan Quinn and Penelope Ann Miller as the Bakers, and Anthony Edwards and Rebecca De Mornay as the Loskis). He knows that Mahoney can save a wise grandfather from cornball with sheer brute force of niceness.
Theres a screenplay device by Reiner and Andrew Scheinman, based on the novel by Wendelin Van Draanan, that could be arous but works here because it has been thought through. The key events in the film are seen from both points of view: Bryces and Julis.
Teenagers often lose the beat emotionally, and these two need John Philip Sousa. There isnt trickery: The scenes happen as they seem to, and not in alternate universes. But they seem so different, depending on who is seeing them.
Theres one of those events so beloved by teenage girls in which they can exact excruciating embarrassment on boys while seeming to be blithely unaware. The boys are auctioned off to the girls as lunch room partners to raise money for charity.
Yeah, thats what a guy wants, to stand onstage while the most patronizing teacher in the school handles the bidding. Of course, it all goes tragically wrong for Juli and Bryce, but for what seems like different reasons.
Reiner sets most of the movie in 1963 (his classic "Stand by Me," is set a few years earlier, in 1959), and I dont think its just for nostalgia. In a way, thats the last year of American teenage innocence, before the 60s took hold. Madeline Carroll and Callan McAuliffe, who both look teeth-achingly vulnerable, are sincere and pure and wholesome, and are characters we believe can be hurt.
Some of todays teenagers are more wounded and cynical than their parents ever were. And for some of them sex is not an undiscovered country.
Maybe what makes "Flipped" such a warm entertainment is how it re-creates a life we wish wed had when we were 14. Thats true for alts, and also I suspect true for some 14-year-olds. In a way the audience flips, too.

After watching Flipped, i was totally moved by its romantic plot. Theheroine, Juli Baker, who is regarded as a strange student in the school, didleave a strong impression in my heart. What i want to say after watching it isthat a special girl deserves a beautiful love. Juli is the one i admire somuch.
Juli Baker met Bryce Loski in her second grade, and she was flipped fromthen on because of his watermelon-scented hair and a pair of dazzling eyes.Though Bryce shew no interest in her and did everything he could to keep awayfrom her, she never gave up and spent the whole year.
wondering if she could ever get his kiss. When they were in seventh grade,Juli fell in love with a large, old sycamore tree, which no one understood.Right after seeing the tree being cut down but Bryce didn』t help, and seeing himthrowing the eggs she gave him, Juli began to think about whether Bryce was theright person. Fortunately, Bryce finally found that Juli was so precious a girl,and the ending was happiness.
There are two impressive scenes that i eagerly want to share. First of allis the scene that Juli sits on the large, old sycamore tree which let her seethe world in a much more enlightened way. She can stay on the tree quietly for awhole day, looking at the marvelous world with curiosity. She loves nature, andis willing to protect it at the risk of her 「reputation」 among the schoolmates.From my perspective, she is an invaluable gift compared to her schoolmates. Shenever follows fashion blindly, instead, she exactly knows what she wants. Askourselves, when the whole world call you 「nerd」or 「freak」, are you dare to turna blind eye to these rumors? Do you still have courage to follow your heart?
Moreover, it was the sweet smile Juli gave to her uncle that made me movedagain. She never blames her mentally challenged uncle, on the contrary, shechose to celebrate the birthday for him. The art direction and era are right on. It is the Eisenhower and Kennedy years in look, and even in feel. The wives are subordinate to the husbands. The children are mostly respectful to their parents. And the teachers teach and the students learn. But, you can see the seeds being laid for the rebellious war babies of the late 1960s.
Rob Reiner is a talented director for romances – 「When Harry Met Sally.」 And he is a talented director for handling young actors – 「Stand By Me.」 He combines these talents to help us understand the better part of the human condition; that is, love, respect, sacrifice, forgiveness, and honor. And we have fun and laugh along the way. This is like the TV program, 「Wonder Years」 – but heightened and deepened.
Tender, earthly, and full of youthful innocence; Flipped is a film that conveys childhood confusion and growth with a soft beauty. There is a running sweetness throughout Flipped that makes it a charming and thoroughly absorbing affair with an astonishing cast that holds a determined edge on maturity. Madeline Carroll is a bright, intelligent, and interesting lead in Juli - the unique girl that is ahead of her years. Carroll displays these qualities with aplomb; she contends with her alt peers and sets herself apart as a talent to be watched.
Her counterpart is Callan McAuliffe in no less impressive. As a young boy learning from his mistakes, McAuliffe has given his character a steady ground and an inviting understanding. It could have been a difficult character to nail, but the young actor has given his '50's period child a magnetic quality that makes the audience want him to succeed.
Unfortunately though, for such an impressive film with a talented young lineup, it is a single short performance from Kevin Weisman that greatly detracts. His cliche' ridden mumblings pull out from an otherwise rounded piece, and needs to be noted as a rare mistep for this film.
Flipped is an understated stroke of mastery from Rob Reiner that deserves a solid audience. It's a sweet look at young life in the making, and is executed with an eye for wonder and hope that it should prove to stir a nostalgic stream of emotions in its viewers.

After watching Flipped, i was totally moved by its romantic plot. The heroine, Juli Baker, who is regarded as a strange student in the school, did leave a strong impression in my heart. What i want to say after watching it is that a special girl deserves a beautiful love. Juli is the one i admire so much.
Juli Baker met Bryce Loski in her second grade, and she was flipped from then on because of his watermelon-scented hair and a pair of dazzling eyes. Though Bryce shew no interest in her and did everything he could to keep away from her, she never gave up and spent the whole year
wondering if she could ever get his kiss. When they were in seventh grade, Juli fell in love with a large, old sycamore tree, which no one understood. Right after seeing the tree being cut down but Bryce didn’t help, and seeing him throwing the eggs she gave him, Juli began to think about whether Bryce was the right person. Fortunately, Bryce finally found that Juli was so precious a girl, and the ending was happiness.
There are two impressive scenes that i eagerly want to share. First of all is the scene that Juli sits on the large, old sycamore tree which let her see the world in a much more enlightened way. She can stay on the tree quietly for a whole day, looking at the marvelous world with curiosity. She loves nature, and is willing to protect it at the risk of her “reputation” among the schoolmates. From my perspective, she is an invaluable gift compared to her schoolmates. She never follows fashion blindly, instead, she exactly knows what she wants. Ask ourselves, when the whole world call you “nerd”or “freak”, are you dare to turn a blind eye to these rumors? Do you still have courage to follow your heart?
Moreover, it was the sweet smile Juli gave to her uncle that made me moved again. She never blames her mentally challenged uncle, on the contrary, she chose to celebrate the birthday for him. When her uncle lost control in the public, she didn’t feel ashamed. Mature as she is, she shoulders the responsibility of her family. What’s more, she clearly knows the importance of tolerance and love.
No wonder that Chet, Bryce’s grandfather, says that Juli is a rare kind of girl who's hard to come across. And it is no wonder that this special girl can finally find her soul mate and harvest her sweetest first love.

To be honest, l fall in love with young Juli when first saw her, just as the excellent article showed on class by teacher says, Juli has extremely bright eyes, which can catch your heart . You have to admit that Juli is a girl who is brave and caring. Met Bryce at the first time, she loses her heart and expect to get Bryce‟s kiss. In order to finish this purpose ,she did many things .However Bryce is a shy boy who is different from Juli ,avoiding to met Juli though they are in the same class. As far as l am concerned, as a boy should be outgoing, just like Juli ,dare to love and hate, have ideas on what to do and not to .
More or less, a family plays a great role in children‟s personality. Juli is lucky to have a good family to give her right value .Juli‟s father is a dreamer, who does not care about material life and shows his full love to his family including to his retarded brother. Faced with the rich neighbor‟s laughing, her father does not have any sense of inferiority, but holds his belief firmly and gives his daughter an eternal parasol tree after the world took away Juli‟s big tree. As to Bryce‟s father, rich but losing, elegant but impolite. Effected by his father, Bryce starts to looking down upon Juli and her family, thinking her family is poor and her yard is dirty, which leads to his refusing to the eggs Juli offers. Even more, his father show little respect to his sister and grandfather, which makes me disgust. Overall, though two families have their shortcoming, we should do what is beneficial to children‟s growth rather than make them cultivate a bad personality which will make others keep distance to then.
When first saw Juli climb up the tree, Bryce think it‟s stupid, refusing to Juli‟s invitation to climb up the tree with her. I do not understand why Juli so insistent to offer her invitation at the beginning, seeing light suddenly after Juli climbs to the top of the tree, where she can see the most beautiful scenery in the whole world and the fascinating sunrise and sunset. Perhaps she want to share cherish thing with whom she loved, so she is unwilling to come down when people plan to cut the tree which attribute to her appearing in newspaper. It‟s her father „s painting about that tree that makes her find her happiness and ends up those day‟s absent-mindedness and sadness.
When growing, we all need somebody‟s guide. Bryce is lucky enough to have a so great grandfather to tell him who he is and he should be a kind and honest person. Just as what Bryce‟s grandfather „s said when they were walking together, “some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss. But every once in a while you find someone who‟s iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare.” ,which gives me a big shock. The growth of love, we often use the way to say” stop ”, in fact, we need a wise man‟s leading, learn to how to love. That‟s where our missing in ecation. l really love the old man who helping Bryce discover the brightness of Juli, helping Juli repair the yard and build the fences without explaining or saying voluntarily, stepping forward when Bryce‟s father laughed at her retarded uncle.
When you like me, l don‟t like you; when you fall in love with me , l like you; when you leave me, l fall in love with you; is that you go to fast, or l can‟t follow your footsteps. When Juli loved him, he was influenced by his father, even lay to her ;when the girl didn‟t love him, he had a subtle feeling, opened his heart with his father‟s help, began to understand her. He did not have a sense of happiness he was looking forward to ring the launch time, what he expected is to be biding by Juli, the girl is having launch with a boy nobody care happily. But could he know Juli‟s suffering and contradictory heart? Could he know that they never have a better understanding of each other? Even more, Bryce came to her and wanted to give her a kiss, which is what she wanted when she was seven years old. 剛剛閱讀完一本書，名字叫《怦然心動》，這本書也被拍成了同名電影。純真年代的單純小美好，真的讓人覺得世界真的很美好。
很喜歡朱莉，是個很勇敢很能幹很善良很單純的小女孩。小孩子的世界，對金錢沒什麼概念，當她發現她的家是租回來的時候，除了驚訝之外，她還做出了個驚人的舉動，動手把自己的院子的大整改。然而她的父親告訴她，當時是房東承諾好要打理好院子的，可是這么多年房東卻沒有信守諾言，她的父親認為房子是租回來的，院子的打理不在他們的義務范圍之內。但是朱莉堅信，房子是租回來的，但是生活不是。是啊，在她心目中，這個房子早已經是她的家了，雖然現在才知道是租回來的。但是她並沒有因此而抱怨，拿起工具就開始動手了。
有一天她發現她的家裡經濟那麼拮據是因為他的父親為了照顧好她的叔叔而造成的，她也沒有埋怨，甚至在學校聽到了她一直偷偷喜歡著的布萊斯跟別人拿她的叔叔開玩笑而開始討厭布萊斯，把之前的好感一點一點磨滅掉。在她的心目中，她的叔叔是全家人都愛的，她也是愛他的，因為他也是她家的一份子，不容別人去拿他取樂。她的叔叔由於出生的時候臍帶繞頸，上一分鍾還是個非常健康的寶寶，下一分鍾就因為窒息而導致腦缺氧，最後智力有了問題。其實，這個情況換在大多數來做，很多可能都放棄了，因為這樣確實是個負擔，同時也會拉低了生活質量，而且照顧他這件事情不是一兩天就結束，也不是三四天，而是一輩子。我覺得朱莉的父母真的是很讓人肅然起敬的。尤其是朱莉的母親，如果在這件事情上她沒有支持和理解她的`丈夫的話，那麼他們家也沒有辦法因為經濟的問題還可以相處得那麼和諧，那麼融洽。
朱莉跟父親一起去探望叔叔的時候，他的叔叔遠遠看到父親來還很高興地打招呼，雖然他很多東西都不懂，但是至少他懂得那是愛他的家人。後來因為一個雪糕掉地上了，她親眼目睹了一個200多斤的壯叔叔居然像個小孩一樣在地上打滾，但是父親沒有因此責怪他，反而想辦法讓他冷靜下來，最後讓朱莉去買雪糕，又拿出來個很貴的拼圖禮物給他玩，這才讓他的情緒穩定下來。
布萊斯的外公，因為看到朱莉爬無花果樹上被登了報紙而關注起她來，沒想到最後兩個人沒有因為年齡差距的影響，卻成為了好朋友。在幫她一起整理她家的院子的時候，無意中得知了她叔叔的事，想起了布萊斯剛出生那會也經歷過這樣的事情，幸運的是，醫生爭取了時間，他沒有變成像朱莉叔叔一樣的人。也是啊，布萊斯的父親，怎麼會因為這樣的事會放棄自己優越的生活質量呢，如果這個事情真的不幸發生在布萊斯身上了，那麼後果他的情況可能會很糟糕。偶然得知這個事情之後，布萊斯的外公跟喜歡這一家人了，雖然他們的經濟可能沒有那麼好，但是他們家有愛。愛大於金錢。
布萊斯，是個需要成長的男孩。他一直知道朱莉喜歡他，關注他，追隨他，這么多來年他習慣著這一切，其實她在喜歡他的同時，他也喜歡她的這件事在慢慢萌發，直到學校舉行一次籃子孩子的活動，朱莉花錢跟另外一個男同學共度午餐的時候爆發了。他看到在旁的朱莉跟另外的男同學共度午餐說說笑笑很開心，就沖動走過去了，他的那桌的兩個女生因為他而在大打出手。他走過去的時候想要親吻朱莉，但是這不是朱莉一直都在等的初吻嗎？她不是一直喜歡他嗎？她居然拒絕了這個吻！是啊，沒錯，她一直喜歡有一天可以等到這個初吻，但是不是在這樣的場合這樣的情境，她的腦海中無數次上演著他們初吻的情景，但是不是現在，也不應該是今天這樣的。所以她拒絕了。
書本的結局是以布萊斯為朱莉在她家院子里種一顆無花果樹結尾，但是還是欠了一個他們的初吻，我希望他們以後會一起坐在這顆無花果樹上面，夕陽西下，然後親吻......

愛情有變幻無窮的分身面貌：佔有欲、痛恨、絕情、兇殘等等，處在愛情之中久了的人們也許陷身於愛的齟齬，再也難以看清愛的面貌了，甚至忘記了還有一種愛情叫做——怦然心動。
是呀，那種怦然心動的感覺從來不需要太多，也許只是一個眼神、一個笑臉，甚至只是一雙湛藍的眼睛，就夠在心中掀起驚濤駭浪，就像七歲的朱莉第一次遇見同樣七歲的布萊斯的時刻，但是不幸的是，女孩的早熟卻遭遇了男孩的懵懂，布萊斯是個自幼生活在父親以及家庭造就的條條框框中的孩子，他看不慣貌似瘋瘋癲癲的朱莉，從內心拒絕整個世界，當然也包括朱莉，兩個人你推我拒的游戲就一年一年的發生著，作者用男孩與女孩兩個人的交叉敘述組成了一本令人著迷的小說，男孩與女孩不同的視角讓同一件事發展出截然不同的結果，並且帶向下一個事件，或許，在他們自己都不清楚走向的發展中，那是求而不得的痛苦，是面對自己無法掌握的人與情感慌亂、窘迫的生活，但是在我們每個讀者的眼中，卻清楚的感受到個人的成長、愛的來臨，布萊斯的抗拒、憤怒、痛苦，都是因為他自己都無法發現的愛帶來的改變，同時，他也在其中感受到不同的自我，或許唯有在愛情中，我們更加盲目，也格外願意改變自我，布萊斯就是在這樣的過程中，逐漸看清了自己身處的世界，學會辨別正直與虛偽，並且真正遇到了他自己，看著這個過程，格外感動，一個人，不論是年齡虛長，甚或功成名就，也不一定會發現真正的自己，而布萊斯多麼幸運，可以遇到他的朱莉，可是又有多少人，甚至一輩子都無法遇到自己的朱莉？
這本書為我們描繪了愛情中的諸多感受，哪怕這愛的感覺只來自於兩個小孩子之間，卻從來不令人感覺幼稚可笑，卻充滿了感動與溫暖，但是同樣布萊斯與朱莉、布萊斯的父母之間的愛情，讓我們看到愛的另一種面貌，那些突如其來的怦然心動也許遮蔽了真相，讓我們除了愛的盲目看不到其他不融洽的點點滴滴，縱然愛能夠彌合所有的裂縫與分歧，但是愛真的有足夠強大的力量能夠抵抗時過境遷的變化與凄涼？朱莉的怦然心動甚至不超過六年的時間，成長與覺醒就讓她發現兩個人之間的鴻溝，而布萊斯的母親佩西則需要更長的時間才能看清楚曾經最愛的人真實的面貌，我小時候最大的疑問就是，金燕西與冷清秋為什麼愛的如此熾熱，最後卻悲劇收場，多年之後我懂了，或許這本書同樣給我們提供了有些殘酷的答案。愛的怦然心動，愛是遇見真正的自己，愛也會是一條蒙蔽我們雙眼的面紗，一旦揭破，我們又該情何以堪？

我看的是英文版的《怦然心動》，給人的感覺很小清新，並且從兩個人的角度去穿進行整個故事，在故事中，從男女主人公不同的視角看待兩個人一起經歷的事情，描寫深刻，並且寫
的很深入，完整的展示了一段青梅竹馬的愛情故事。當然也穿著家庭教育，家庭關系和鄰里關系等等。讓人無意間去思考很多事情。
