電影劇本正文里，
首頁左上角會出現FADE IN （淡入），
末頁右下角會出現FADE OUT （淡出）。
中間的轉場，常用的有CUT TO/ DISSOLVE TO/ FADE TO，根據不同轉場方式決定寫哪一個。

場景標題（scene heading/slugline）中，
EXT.表示Exterior（外景），INT.表示Interior（內景），EXT./INT.後面寫的是某個具體地點。
DAY表示白天，NIGHT表示夜晚。
INTERCUT表示某場景的情節在兩個不同的地點同時發生，需要進行鏡頭交切。

角色對話中，出現在括弧里的詞屬於對話的輔助性描寫（parenthetical instructions）。

I told him about the quarrel between Shylock and Antonio. We studied many lawbooks and he knows what I would say. I ask you to let him stand in my place and give judgement. After the letter has been read out to the court, Portia, in lawyer's clothes, enters the room and takes her seat as judge.
