這部電影主要說的是：神偷格魯收養了三個孤女，想要利用他們偷走另一個壞蛋維克多的縮小射線槍，然後再利用縮小射線槍去偷月亮。
開始的時候， 格魯對三個小女孩一點也不好，比如： 三個小女兒讓他講睡前故事，他不講，還說忙；讓他買玩具，他說不買。但是三個小女孩用自己的天真、可愛感動了格魯。後來，他給女孩講睡前故事，主動去吻他們，還給她們買玩具。
格魯偷到縮小射線槍後，坐著火箭出發了。到了月亮上，把月亮縮小成了雞蛋般大小，拿了回來。而一直與格魯作對的維克多已經把三個小女孩抓走了。因為他已經發現了格魯從不喜歡小女孩到喜歡她們了。於是，維克多想用小女孩威脅格魯。格魯知道後，就去救她們。維克多要求格魯用月亮交換小女孩。對格魯來說，現在小女孩比月亮更珍貴，於是他就把月亮給了維克多。但是，維克多並不把女孩們還給格魯。經過斗爭，月亮越變越大，他壓碎了控制小女孩的水晶球。女孩們得救了，維克多卻被送到了月亮上面去。
看了這部有趣的電影，我覺得維克多可憐又可恨，他從小就不被自己的父親所認可，很可憐；但是他為了成功不守信用，不擇手段，很可恨。 而格魯從壞蛋變的善良的過程也很感人： 一開始他對女孩們一點也不禮貌，但後來他被女孩們的天真可愛感動了。最後情願用自己千辛萬苦偷來的月亮去交換女孩們。他真的很善良。

他是不是太寂寞了， 寂寞得讓自己覺得如果不作出非同尋常的人便不會有 人知道他的存在。於是，他才決定偷月亮。偷月亮當然 比偷金字塔更令人驚嘆。在格魯不斷地向目標前進時，三個小姑娘出現了。影片中一次又一次描述壞蛋格魯從小 孩時期開始就已經有了要造火箭登月 的夢想，那是他一直以來的執著與追求，可是，當他把月球交出換取小女孩 時，我就知道，他的抉擇是什麼了。
她們知道了他的存在，他有了牽掛。
所以，他有自己大大的所謂目標，最後卻明白要的不過是平凡人的幸福。
